Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Care

"Cardiologists' level of awareness of racial/ethnic disparities in care remains low. Fewer than one third of cardiologists perceived that race/ethnic disparities exist in the US healthcare system, and even fewer believed that these disparities exist in their own practice settings. The general lack of awareness is a bit surprising given the extent of government agencies’ and professional associations’ efforts to make physicians aware of this issue. Nevertheless, the attitudes about the difference between the system overall and one’s practice setting are consistent with other findings on patient and provider beliefs about the healthcare system."
